Day Seven
Gettysburg, Pennsylvania
With a total of 51,000 casualties, the Battle of Gettysburg was the bloodiest battle in American history. This was the 14th battle fought in the Civil War, and is also considered the turning point for the war. Lee at first was winning the battle in the beginning by outnumbering the Union, then however he was not fast enough to completely win the battle. Union Gen. George G. Meade used that time to strengthen his forces, so when Lee came back for a second round he could not defeat the Union.
Gettysburg was one of the most important battles in the Civil War, it marked the end of the continuous Confederate victories. It was a must for us to visit! We traveled about 347 miles from Plymouth to Gettysburg, and it brought a good end to our journey.
