Day Four
Atlanta, Georgia
Margaret Mitchell House and Museum is located in Atlanta Georgia. Margaret Mitchell is a writer, playwright, and philanthropist. She was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for her novel Gone with the Wind. She wrote the novel in this house after quitting her job at a newspaper agency because of an ankle injury.
Up until this stop, we had not visited any museums on this trip. Gone with the Wind is a very popular novel in the U.S., and we both had watched the movie in school. We learned some background information about Margaret Mitchell, the author and also about the effects the novel had on the public.

Fort Pulaski, Georgia
Fort Pulaski National Monument is located between Savannah and Tybee Island, Georgia. It preserves Fort Pulaski, where the Union Army tested rifled cannons. It was also used as a prisoner-of-war camp. This fort was constructed under Robert E. Lee. However, it was bombarded by the Union as part of the southern campaign. Throughout the remainder of the war, it was in federal hands and used by the Union.
We chose to stop here on our trip because it was a place that we had never heard of, and we wanted to learn more about it. We had no idea that Robert E. Lee had the resources to make such well constructed forts. We decided to stop here because it was our last place to visit in Georgia and we had only visited one fort before this. This was the last stop of the day for us. We traveled a total of about 262 miles.
